Based on and built around the west coast radio program, "The Hollywood Barn Dance", although no members of the 1947 cast of the program are in the film, but the better-known (on a national scale) Ernest Tubb and His Texas Troubadors, Jack Guthrie and Jimmy and Leon Short more than make up for that. The slight plot, around 18 songs, begins with Tubb and his band searching for $2000 needed to rebuild their town chuch after it burned down while they were rehearsing in it. A little girl and her father are among the settlers in a small western town. The father is very friendly with the neighboring Indian tribe and is presented with a quaint piece of metal representing a dragon's claw, the tribe's good luck omen. Some time later, while traveling with his daughter, he is held up by a band of bandits and shot dead. A bandit takes from him this dragon's claw. Years pass. The little girl has grown into a beautiful young lady. She marries. Their love is very real and their life most happy. He decides to go out west to see a mine that yields the richest gold and his wife expresses a desire to go along with him. The mine is christened "The Dragon's Claw," because of an Indian charm the man owns. While out on a western desert, he shows the dragon's claw to his wife. She then recognizes it as the kind her father possessed when he was killed. She has understood it to be the only one of its kind. She now believes it is her husband who killed her father.

The Outlaw, preparing to rob the stage, receives a letter from his wife, telling him to lead a good life for the sake of her and his baby, and informing him that he may expect them any time. Filled by remorse, he refuses to accompany his companions on their hold-up. As he rides away, he sees a sign offering clemency to the unknown robber if he will give up his gun. He seeks out the sheriff, surrenders the gun and goes on his way. But the stage is held up and the pursuing posse arrests him. Rendered desperate, he makes his escape and prepares to resume his criminal career. But the posse captures the real bandit.
